Aldous Huxley’s novel: Brave New World , set in London in the year 2540, gives a grim picture of a dystopian civilization built on secular atheistic foundations. The novel depicts the world idolizing or worshiping Henry Ford and swearing “by Ford” rather than “by Lord” and cutting off the tops of crosses to make a “T” in honor of Ford’s Model T motorcar. The calendar starts with “Anno Ford” which is the Gregorian year 1908, the first year of the Model T. Hence the year is 632 AF (After Ford) corresponding to our year 2540.
The group, Modern Library, ranked Brave New World number five in a list of the 100 best English language novels of the twentieth century.
I mention Huxley’s novel to point out that when people reject God they tend to worship a man. If they believe God is dead, somebody has to replace Him. G.K. Chesterton wrote: “If men stop believing in God they don’t believe in nothing. They believe in anything.” The “anything” that people believe in has been Marxism, Leninism, Fascism, Nationalism, Nazism, selfism or any of a number of vain philosophies founded by dead white males.
With all the rioting and tearing down of monuments in the Summer of 2020, it’s important to step back and take a look at what the new secular establishment wants for America and the world. Who are the violent rioters? What do they want? Why do they want it?
Antifa, which is short for “antifascist,” is a loosely organized movement of mostly young white males who looted and burned down businesses in the inner cities where many peaceful demonstrations turned violent. We saw the spectacle on our television screens of young white men burning black owned inner city property while protesting the murder of the black man, George Floyd. Their red and black emblems feature an image of two flags, one red (abolish capitalism) and one black (smash fascism). If you tear the mask off a fierce looking Antifa guy you’ll find an ordinary white suburban college student.
Black Lives Matter is a movement founded in 2013 by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi. Two of the young ladies are lesbian; all three are Marxist. They follow Karl Marx, a dead white male!! BLM combats racism and promotes socialism and the LBGTQ agenda. One BLM leader, Shaun King, has advocated destroying statues and other artwork that depicts Jesus as a white male.
The Secular Progressive Establishment is far larger and more subtle than the bomb throwers in Antifa and BLM. It’s the whole hierarchy of leftism that dominates government, education and the news media. They’re engaged in a huge cultural experiment of building a global society on narrow minded human reason rather than on God’s all-wise revelation.
Their rhetoric suggests they want a Brave New World built on the shifting sands of contemporary secular thought. The public statements, websites, tweets and social media posts of Antifa, Black Lives Matter and other groups behind the “cancel culture” indicate that they want not just racial justice but also leftism and totalitarian government. This means confiscatory taxes on not just the rich but also on the middle class to be wastefully mismanaged by government bureaucrats to redistribute income and provide inferior healthcare.
The secular liberal establishment wants unrestricted abortion to continue the slaughter of 750,000 preborn children each year in a genocide that has murdered 50 million human beings in the US since 1973. They want the homosexual agenda and gay sensitivity training taught in public schools K-12. They want to throw open the borders to bring in people from poor countries to be voters for socialism and be unknowing voters for the abortion and gay agenda attached to socialism.
They want guns owned only by the police (the departments not yet defunded) and the military and criminals. Gun confiscation is a goal so that people are both dependent on the government for protection and – very importantly – so people can’t ultimately defend themselves from a tyrannical government. They want euthanasia, assisted suicide and post-abortion infanticide. In short, they want a culture of death. They want to turn America into a third world socialist hellhole.
This whole denial of God’s ways and God’s laws is all built on the foundation of evolution which is the claim that humans have no souls because they evolved from animals and humans have no conscious existence after death. I’ve written much about the scientific flaws of evolution. Let’s take a brief look at the alleged “missing links,” those ancient skulls you read about in Time magazine and National Geographic. They’ve all been shown by sound science to be either fully ape or fully human (see articles documenting this at www.icr.org and my DTF article #267 at www.bnugent.org). Human evolution is a joke. No apeman hybrid skull or skeleton has ever been found. There are no transitional fossils between apes and humans. God is our creator.
Denial of the creator God and rejection of belief in life after death results in purposelessness and futility. The novel, Brave New World, ends with the main characters in exile, despair and suicide.
Let me cut to the chase. Let me boil it all down to the basics. The left wants three things: socialism, abortion and homosexuality. That’s the bottom line. You’ll notice that two of these goals, abortion and homosexuality, go directly against two of God’s Ten Commandments.
Abortion violates the sixth commandment: “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13 NASB). Homosexuality violates the seventh commandment: “You shall not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14 NASB). The seventh commandment is understood to be a general forbidding of all forms of sexual deviancy. Homosexuality is also specifically forbidden elsewhere in the Bible.
What should be our response to this unfolding secular revolution that is sweeping across our land and across the globe? The number one response is to pray. That’s not a cop out. That’s not passivity. Prayer is the first priority. “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life” (I Timothy 2:1-2 NASB). If you’re not in an intercessory prayer group, I suggest you join one or at least make passionate intercession a major priority in your personal prayer times. We need to pray for our leaders and for revival!
Secondly, let’s reach out to others to show the error of the foundation of the secular culture of death. Be prepared to refute evolution and worldly philosophies. If you convince someone that evolution is a lie and that God is our creator, the culture of death crumbles and falls. C.S. Lewis once said “Intellectual persuasion can take a man from atheist to theist, but only faith can bring a man from theist to Christian” (paraphrased). We must be ready: “always being ready to make a defense to every one who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you” (I Peter 3:15 NASB). We do our part which is to speak the Gospel boldly and give Gospel tracts to people. The Holy Spirit does the inner work of convicting of sin and drawing people to trust in Christ for salvation.
The cross has two beams. The vertical beam is where we speak to God in prayer. The horizontal beam is where we speak to people and share the good news of salvation.
Going out and voting and doing political outreach is part of the horizontal beam of reaching out to our neighbors. If you vote for the pro-abortion candidate because you like his/her position on wealth redistribution, you become a participant in that office holder’s pro-abortion legislative action. You’re an accessory to murder. You’ve voted for murder in exchange for a mess of pottage called higher taxes on the rich. That’s a shame into which many Christians fall.
Many secular liberal people are taking a fresh look at Christianity. Educated people see the complexity of living things and believe that there must be a creator of life. Philosophers are taking note of the collapse of communism and socialism and see that the sinfulness of people is self-evident and must be remedied through Christ.
God sent His Son Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah and redeemer of mankind. Christ came in fulfillment of over three hundred prophecies that were written in the Old Testament hundreds of years before His birth. No other person in history can make this claim. Christ alone fulfilled the Messianic prophecies. Additionally, Christ worked miracles of healing in front of eyewitnesses. Christ’s followers today still receive miracles of healing and other miracles in answer to prayer. The fulfilled prophecies and the miracles prove the Bible’s claim that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and our redeemer.
The prophets foretold that Christ would suffer and die, taking upon Himself the penalty we deserved for our sins, thus making atonement for us before God the Father. The following words, which were fulfilled by Jesus Christ, were written by the Hebrew prophet Isaiah over eight hundred years before the birth of Christ:
“But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The chastening of our well-being fell upon Him,
And by His scourging we are healed.
All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him” Isaiah 53:5-6 NASB.
Having earned eternal redemption for us through His suffering and death, Christ rose from the dead to offer forgiveness of sins to all who repent and call upon Him. I invite you to call upon Jesus Christ today to receive forgiveness of sins.
Steps to salvation:
Jesus said “Ye must be born again” (John 3:7).
Prayer to receive salvation:
“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
To receive the salvation that Jesus purchased for us at the terrible cost of His suffering and death on our behalf I invite you to pray this simple prayer:
“Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for sending Jesus, the promised Messiah, to die for my sins. I admit that I am a sinner. I repent of my sins and I ask for your forgiveness on the basis of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I ask you to fill me with your Holy Spirit to empower me to serve you under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, Amen.”
If you prayed this prayer in the humble sincerity of your heart then you have received everlasting life, which includes power to live right in this life and entrance into heaven in the afterlife!
