AMERICA IN 2033

Nobody could believe how fast American society changed. It was like a blur, like a dream in the night. On September 6, 2033 (thirty years to the day from when I write these words) we look at an America vastly transformed in one generation into the society that our maniacal, skeptical, atheistic, materialistic elite had envisioned.

It’s an America where secularism has triumphed. Christianity has been banished to the margins. Christian preaching is still allowed but only in the church building. Religion, all religion, has been banished from the public square and from public discourse. Political leaders are void of any knowledge of the Judeo-Christian ethic and hence totally unrestrained by the concept of transcendent morality. Christianity is a fading tribal memory.

In place of morals is a form of hypocritical “tolerance” in which only that which was formerly called deviancy is tolerated. Why, someone asks, is Christianity not tolerated? Christians aren’t tolerated — our masters tell us — because Christians are intolerant!

Religion has restrained political leaders all through history but now America has no civil religion. It has only skepticism buttressed by Darwinian myth.

It’s an America in which you are “free” to buy the vilest pornography. You are “free” to abort your preborn child. You are not free to raise your child to be prudent and responsible. More than a decade earlier, in the early 2020s, children were declared to be the property of the state. To tell your child that homosexuality is wrong is considered hate speech. Any speech that defames homosexuality is a hate crime. Any boy with even the slightest tendency toward effeminacy is considered “probably gay” and is steered into the gay lifestyle by teachers and civil authorities.

It’s an America where baby boomers in their eighties are euthanized by the children they didn’t abort. First a committee of doctors was empowered to decide whether a senior lived or died then a law was enacted that gave just one doctor this prerogative.

Conscience clauses were removed from medical regulations. Catholic and other Christian hospitals were compelled to offer abortions and euthanasia. These hospitals chose to shut down rather than comply with such barbarism. They were forced to sell their facilities to secular authorities for a fraction of their value.

All political speech — which the first amendment was designed to protect — is now tightly regulated and curtailed. Any politically incorrect speech is considered to be “hate speech” and is banned under false accusation of being libel, slander or even just illegal “negative campaigning.” By contrast, all pornography is judged to be “protected speech” under the first amendment.

All these changes weren’t brought in by democratic processes but by activist judges. The supreme court in the decades leading up to 2033 became like the philosopher kings of ancient Greece. Their power to nullify laws trumped the power of congress to enact them. They are a law unto themselves with no moral compass. Congress can’t pass so much as a dog leash law without the supreme court striking parts of it down remorselessly.

It’s not like congress and the presidents over the years were guardians of morality anyway. Most of them seemed to have liked to have the courts overturn centuries of moral precedent. Those who stood up for traditional morality were vilified by the media and by the university elite.

It’s an America that won’t stand up for human rights or freedom anywhere in the world. Europe went completely totalitarian. England stood against it for a while but was quickly swept under. It’s a world of tyrants, despots, tinhorn dictators, genocide, mass graves, gulags, concentration camps, wars, riots and strife — every leader a law unto himself.

This is what America and the world will look like in 2033 if we allow Darwinian based secularism to triumph. The dreadful state of affairs described above doesn’t have to be our future. Edmund Burke (1729-1797) said “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

The Bible says “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11). It is therefore up to us to pray for revival and to get involved in addressing the issues of our day and go about “taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5 NASB).
